Working From Home

I've been working from home for four weeks now, and you know what? It's pretty much just as awesome as expected. Some random thoughts on the arrangement:

  • Lola is finally getting used to having me around all day. For the first couple weeks, she would come pester me every hour or two, but she's been pretty good this past week.
  • One of the best things about working alone is that I have complete control over the environment. I can listen to podcasts if I want to without disturbing anyone.

Professional Transitions

Today was my last day at my job. On Monday, I start a new one. You may be thinking, "Didn't you just start a new job?" - and you would be right. Let me back up a few months.

In November, I accepted a position at a PR agency downtown and submitted my resignation at AQS, the company where I had worked for my first four years out of college. It was a tough decision to make: AQS had been good to me and I really liked everyone I worked with, but I felt that it was time for me to move on to new projects. Read more »

A Sense of Accomplishment

I haven't got much work-work done this weekend, except for a three-hour burst around midnight last night.

So far today, I've been focusing on little things: cleaning the apartment, scanning and shredding documents, doing laundry. Some days, I need this a lot more than I need to get the big stuff done, for my own sanity. I've been carrying about 20 items over from one daily todo list to the next, and it often feels like I'm not getting anything accomplished. Read more »

Working From Home Home

This week, I'm working from home home - my parents' house in the suburbs of Buffalo. My brother is getting married this Saturday, and I came up on Thursday for his bachelor party this past weekend. Rather than making the trip twice, I'm staying through the week and working from here for a few days.

This is the longest I've worked remotely. Once in a while, I'll work from my apartment for part of the day if I have a doctor's appointment or something like that, but I've never done it for three solid days like this. I thought it would be great, but it's kind of weird. Read more »
